Skin as memory: textures and surfaces

Skin is the largest organ in the human body. The physical barrier that constitutes serves to protect and facilitate the adaptation and interrelation of the individual with its surroundings. The surface represents the barrier that protects and separates the environments. The textures, the impressions that memory imprints in the skin. Skin enables a connection between both environments, it represents a window that opens from within the body to the external world.

As Le Clezio says, to be born is to be immersed in a narrow universe where every detail is important and leaves its mark.  This also holds true of skin; even though skin is in a continuous process of renewal, there are impressions that remain etched into it as traces of memory.  The textures of the surfaces of the pieces are presented as a metaphor for these traces and memories that were built from sensations and lived experiences.

My work revolves around concepts such as identity, individuality and the body. It requires time and creativity; the creation of each piece is the result of a process of research and production that highlights its uniqueness. My work becomes a bridge that connects my memories with its imprints generating a link between my inner world and the exterior.
